Alchemy Theatre

‘Embark on a strange and spectacular journey through ritual, experimental theatre and multidisciplinary performance. Reimagining history with a mystical twist, we delve into the otherworld to discover forgotten stories. Experience the sublime as we reinvent the past, blending imaginative storytelling with historical research, aesthetics, and a touch of magic. Uncover the alchemy of process and sensation, reconsidering our collective memory through an immersive, unforgettable experience.’

Ritual theatre is at the heart of my contemporary art and performance practice, using image, sound and action to create live rites rather than conventional drama. My Eidophusikon work, Scenes from the Journey of a Soul, is conceived as a modern ritual theatre piece: a sequence of visionary tableaux that guide the audience through an inner, initiatory voyage. My play Apologia extends this approach into spoken theatre, incorporating several authentic ritual sequences researched from 18th‑century magical history. Together, these works explore how historical esoteric practices can be reimagined on today’s stage as living, participatory art.

Apologia is the true story of Count Alessandro Cagliostro, history’s most notorious magician. The play, featuring Maurizio Molino (pictured)  as the Count, premiered at Camden Fringe Festival in fully sold out performances.

Signal Lost at Midnight

Inspired by a 1906 French play, The Haunted House La maison hantee), Signal Lost at Midnight is a short play that combines satire, realism and gore in the tradition of the late great Grand Guignol. A group of would-be ghost-hunting podcasters explore an abandoned house and discover something that could make them YouTube stars- or not.

Produced at The Space directed by Julia Sopher for the Society of Strangers Theatre Company.

Writing and developing art performances for the Eidophusikon

I built an Eidophusikon, a miniature theatre first created by painter and stage designer Philip James de Loutherbourg in 1781. This is a special Effects (SFX) theatre without actors or character, just moving scenography and effects. My first show, Into the Sublime, was exhibited in sold-out performances for the Bloomsbury Festival 2024. It featured the ritual theatre piece ‘Scenes From the Journey of a Soul’

We enter the mind of the Alchemist and takes the audience on a journey from the natural world into the afterlife, visiting Heaven and Hell and glimpsing a vision of the Divine. Collaboration with artists Liane Lang, Shannon Rakochy, Marwan Elgamal, Nazir Tanbouli, Natasha Redina, Takatsuna Mukai, Jagoda Kamov and diz_qo. Design and build by Mark Fairhurst.
